Mike and I spent the Chinese New Year holiday this year food-tripping at Tagaytay with our then three-month old Terrynator. After hitting Breakfast at Antonio's, we headed off to Bag of Beans for our dessert and coffee.

We have been to Bag of Beans several times and always return for our favorite dessert, their blueberry cheesecake.

I personally think this is the best blueberry cheesecake I have ever tasted. And I have tried A LOT of blueberry cheesecakes. I'm not entirely sure, but I think there is white chocolate somewhere there. Anyway, pair it with Bag of Beans' refillable house brew and you are completely set. It's not that pricey either--totally bang for the buck! Since Nate fell asleep that time, we really took our time lounging at Bag of Beans enjoying our dessert and coffee.

We read so many rave reviews about Breakfast at Antonio's. So we were pretty excited to find out for ourselves just how good the breakfast joint really is.

We arrived a little past 8 in the morning and the restaurant's parking lot was already full. We had to park by the roadside, but still in front of the restaurant. We waited 30 minutes to be seated. The waiting area was packed!

We got one of the tables near the window, which to us offered the best spot in the house--bright, chilly, with a view to boot.

The menu was extensive and everything looked really interesting. Mike and I usually order two different dishes and share, so that we get to taste both dishes. Mike chose the Eggs Benedict while I chose the Reuben Sandwich. For drinks, Mike had the Hot Chocolate, while I had the White Chocolate.

The Eggs Benedict was on the petite side, but the taste made up for the size. I was not a fan of the smoked ham which was a bit tart, but Mike said he liked it. On the other hand, the Reuben was gigantic and quite filling--a bit dry though. Our hot chocolate beverages were extremely rich and comforting.

Overall, the food was ok, just really pricey. For so little, we paid over a thousand pesos already. I suppose that's how much the Tagaytay ambiance cost.

Dolphins in the wild

On our third day in Panglao, Bohol, we had a sea tour which included waking up really early to chase dolphins. I didn't think I'd be so ecstatic to see dolphins. It's not like I have never seen one. But when we finally saw the pack of dolphins, I went nuts! It's incredible to see them in the wild! And there were so many of them too! We were pretty lucky, we were told, since others would only catch 3 or 5, or some have been unable to see any dolphins on their scheduled sea tour. In our case, we saw at least 11 and in several sightings too!

When we spent Christmas at Bohol, we stayed in Dumaluan Beach, Panglao Island.

The beach is really beautiful and the sand was lovely--almost comparable to Boracay. My niece loved playing with the fine cream sand, but she refused to sit on the sand. She's a little obsessive compulsive like that.

Chocolate Hills not looking too chocolate-y.

Of course the country-side tour would not have been complete without stopping by the Chocolate Hills observatory/viewing deck. The viewing deck is actually one of the hills which the government has converted into an observatory.

The hills appear green here because the limestone formations are covered with grass. But during the dry season, the grass dries up and the hills appear more brown than green.

Loboc River Cruise

As part of the country-side tour, we tried the Loboc River Cruise, where one enjoys a buffet of Filipino food while the “cruise boat” traverses the Loboc River. Sometimes, we would stop over floating planks where locals, young and old, would put on a show of Filipino songs and traditional dance. It was a picturesque ride, and some boat operators offer really delicious food.

As part of the country-side tour, we went to Baclayon Church, the second oldest church in the Philippines.

My family spent Christmas 2012 in Bohol. Of course, we had to take the country-side tour which included a stop at the Tarsier Conservation Area in Loboc, Bohol.

Tarsiers are one of the smallest primates and are an endangered species. These guys are nocturnal, and the big eyes help in hunting during the night. As they are shy creatures, they are easily freaked out and are known to commit “suicide” when paranoid.
