I kept telling myself that I would wake up early to catch the sunrise at the beach. But my alarm failed to wake me up. When I finally woke up, I had to run towards the horizon to chase the sunrise.

This is my mom with my nephew, trying to catch some early morning sunshine. She is now a grandmother to six cuties, my son included. She and my late dad absolutely loved hanging out with the kiddies--an activity they called "APOstolate" ("apo" means grandchild in Filipino).

"Tatang" is Ilocano for father. This man was my grandfather, my dad's dad. But when we were younger, we called him Tatang because that was how our dad addressed him. Now we call him "Lilong" (grandfather) and my nieces and nephews call him "Apong" (great grandfather).

Setting white balance to fluorescent while the morning sunlight streamed through our bedroom window gave the shot a nice warm hue.

My brother-in-law graduated from culinary school. I scoured his kitchen for items of interest and saw this whisk.

More commonly known to locals as "Big Buddha," it is the world's largest seated outdoor bronze Buddha statue.

Poly is my husband's Christmas gift to me. I hate that I can't play with him as much because the compatible film is not readily available in the Philippines.

I figured my first post should be about what got me started on taking pictures in the first place — my very first camera, a Fujifilm X10 which I have fondly nicknamed “Fiji.”

As my New Year’s Resolution for 2012, I resolved to get to know Fiji better. I also decided to try the 52 Weeks Photo Project, and entered this as my first entry for the theme “New Year’s Resolution.” Incidentally, this shot was taken with a Samsung Galaxy SII.
